Award winner Nancy tunes up for Barnard Castle show

FOLK fans are in for a treat when a multi-award winner plays in Barnard Castle on Friday night (June 16).
Nancy Kerr, one of the best-known and most experienced folk singers in the country, will take to the stage at The Witham with multi-instrumentalist James Fagan. Admired as one of the most professional and talented duos on the folk circuit, together they will bring their outstanding musicianship, a lifelong grounding in traditional singing and playing and acclaimed compositions.
The Witham’s audience development officer, Maddy Sutton, said: “Nancy and James are renowned for creating a visceral chemistry with their experienced partnership and have received many accolades throughout their career having won the inaugural Horizon award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2000.
“They were the first ever recipients of the best duo award, which they won in 2003, and again in 2011.
“Nancy also owns the 2015 Folk Singer of the Year Award, along with best group and best album in 2014 with her work with respected band, The Full English.”
Her visit to Barney kickstarts a summer of gigs and festival dates and follows the release of her most recent album, the critically acclaimed Instar last September.
Prior to the gig, The Witham’s Supper Club experience is available to those planning to attend.
