Pupils ask in time capsule: Will school uniforms still exist in the future?

A TIME capsule will ensure a Teesdale school will make its mark on future generations.
Dozens of notes from staff, pupils and workmen were stored in a sealed package before they were stashed away in Butterknowle Primary School’s roof.
Renovation work on the 105-year-old roof has been going on since October and a suggestion from roofing foreman Peter Hillman inspired pupils to put together a time capsule.
Headteacher Tessa Fenoughty said: “Every child has put in a little note for a child of the future – there are some quite funny ones in there as well. The little ones have put something in about themselves as well.”
Among the notes were messages asking if pupils still wore school uniform and whether horses still existed.
Included in the pack were pictures of classes, staff and the roofers themselves.
Mr Hillman revealed how roofers of the past used to store notes behind the slates.
In his note, he said: “I hope the roof has been in good condition for the past 150 years – good luck with the new one.”
