Morris dancing being billed as the ultimate way to keep fit

IT’S that time of year when people often feel the need to shed a few pounds, get healthy and do some exercise, but is the gym really the answer?
Not according to the The Rumold Morris Dancers, based in Romaldkirk, who say their activity is an ideal way of getting in shape.
Su Graves, from the group, said: “Forget the boring treadmill and endless spinning and do some morris dancing. It’s weekly event that will see you lose weight, increase your stamina levels and have fun at the same time – at a fraction of the cost.
“It may not be the first thing that springs to mind but it is worth a go. You don’t need any previous experience, we will teach you.
“The only equipment you will need is a good comfortable pair of shoes. We are a great bunch and we enjoy ourselves and have fun. Did we mention the hats? Where else can you get fit and run around and hit people with sticks? So if you want to strap on some bells get in touch or just pop along.”
The Rumold Morris meet Tuesdays from 7pm to 9pm in the Reading Room, in Romaldkik. It’s a mixed side and mostly do border style morris. Contact Mike 01833 650096, email rumold.morris@bt
