DICKENS comes to the dale later this month in the first of their two shows being staged in Hamsterley in conjunction with the Highlights Rural Touring Scheme.

Barnarby Rudge will be performed by the Northumberland Theatre Company at Hamsterley Village Hall on Thursday, September 28.

Set against the backdrop of the Gordon Riots of 1780, Barnaby Rudge is a story of mystery and suspense which begins with an unsolved double murder, goes on to involve conspiracy, blackmail, abduction and retribution, and features Grip, a talking pet raven.

Through the course of the play, fathers and sons become opposed, apprentices plot against their masters and there are violent clashes on the streets.
