A fiendish course of 30 natural and manmade obstacles has been designed for the grounds of Witton Castle on Sunday, September 17.
The event is part of the hospice’s Conquer the Castle series, which has been ongoing throughout the past few months.
Fundraiser Helen Kirby said it was the first time anything like this had been staged at the castle and it was one of the most challenging obstacle courses County Durham had ever seen.
“You’re invited to run, climb, crawl, scramble, carry, swing and use your brain in the ultimate challenge to discover the best GI Joe and GI Jane in the region,” she said.
“Witton Castle has some of the best mud County Durham has to offer – and you’d better prepare to be covered in it in this fantastic obstacle course.
“The obstacles are both natural and man-made and is designed by our event leader who has more than five years’ experience in developing and delivering courses.”
It costs £30 for adults (18-plus) or £20 for those aged ten to 17. The minimum age for this event is 10 years old.
There will be medals for everyone that completes the course.
Registration will start at noon and the race begins at 1pm.

Butterwick Hospice provides palliative care services to the Durham Dales and Sedgefield areas.
It also hosts day care services at the Richardson Hospital, Barnard Castle.
