Barnard Castle pupils star in teacher training film

TWO young stars in the making have helped promote a dale-based teacher training firm as the new term kicks into gear.

Green Lane Primary School pupils Adam Perkins and Charlotte Leonard turned the tables on teaching staff from High Force Education for a special film.

The Barnard Castle pair played teachers in front of the camera in a one-minute video alongside teaching staff from the school and High Force who played pupils.

High Force Education provides a one year initial teacher training course in partnership with schools and is based next to Green Lane School.

Programme manager Gemma Costello came up with the idea as it welcomed its latest cohort of trainee teachers. She said: “The children are used to being around trainee teachers and help on interview days to deliver tasks so they often think as themselves as the teachers.”

A professional film crew helped put the video together before the summer holidays with Charlotte and Adam.

The whole school got to see their classmates in action at a special premiere last Wednesday. Charlotte said: “It was really good – it took hours. They cut out some of my lines in the end.”

High Force Education celebrated achieving an “outstanding” rating from Ofsted this year and Ms Costello praised the role of Green Lane in their success. She said: “Hopefully it will promote the SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training). I appreciate what all the headteachers of all the schools did for me so it’s nice to give something back and help new teachers on their journey.”
