The event recognised the achievements of apprentices who have all gained permanent roles at GSK after this year’s scheme. Their efforts were recognised by George Ritchie, North East Apprenticeship Ambassador Network chairman.
Mr Ritchie, who started his own career as an apprentice and is now a retired senior vice president following 50 years in the process industry in North East, spoke about the importance of investing in young people and creating a highly skilled workforce for the future.
Also attending were Russell Collins, director and member of GSK’s Barnard Castle leadership team, senior managers and Helen Smith, GSK’s Barnard Castle apprentice boss.
Ms Smith said: “This is the first time we’ve organised a recognition event like this, and it was great to see our apprentices collect their certificates.
“We are proud of our apprentices at Barnard Castle, so we wanted to make sure that family, friends and managers could also join us in helping to celebrate their success.”
“Huge congratulations to all our apprentices at Barney, they are our future leaders and have worked really hard.”
GSK offers both higher and advanced apprenticeship opportunities that typically last from two to four years. This year’s finishing GSK apprentices came from disciplines including manufacturing, engineering, supply chain and pack artwork. Applications for entry onto GSK’s apprenticeship scheme open at the end of October.
