Storyteller returns to Barnard Castle with tales of middle aged life

TV comic Rob Rouse is to bring his brand new show to Barnard Castle at Easter.
The comedy veteran, whose career on the live circuit spans almost two decades, will perform his new full-length show Are You Sitting Comfortably? at The Witham, on Saturday, April 15.
He may be married with two kids, a dog and an eye-watering mortgage, but Rouse remains resolute that a career in unpredictable world of comedy was absolutely the right way to go.
Most definitely now a middle-aged bloke, Rob Rouse happily holds his hands up as being about as “un-sexy” as it’s possible to be, but as a stand-up, he is in the form of his life, and in his new show features his trademark comedic storytelling.
One of comedy’s most lively, loveable and dynamic performers, he won Channel 4’s prestigious So You Think You’re Funny competition at the Edinburgh Festival in 1998.
In the decades that followed, he has performed all over the world and works long form narratives into hard-hitting, uncompromising tales filled with warmth and a sense of compassion for our collective human frailties.
He is a regular face on 8 out of 10 Cats, Spoons, The Friday Night Project, Celebrity Juice, Dave’s One Night Stand, John Bishop’s Only Joking, and Live at the Comedy Store.
Since his last appearance in Barnard Castle, he has also earned acclaim for his performance as Bottom in Ben Elton’s hit BBC2 Shakespeare sitcom Upstart Crow.
Promoter Peter Dixon, of Funny Way to Be Comedy Club, said: "Rob has been a regular face on so many wonderful TV comedies over the years. It’s a pleasure to have him perform his new show for us.
“He’s such a fantastic storyteller. We’re looking forward to having him regale us with some new tales.”
Tickets are £14 and are available online from funnywaytobe.com or The Witham Box Office.
