Power trio promise classic sounds at Mickleton Live

IF classic rock played by a classic power trio appeals, then you are in for a treat later this month.

Mickleton Live present Voodoo Room on Saturday, January 27, in the village hall.

The trio pay tribute to Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Cream and feature a roster of some of the country's finest rock musicians.

The band features guitarist Pete Orr, who has been entertaining audiences for the past three decades, drummer John Tonks, one of the UK’s leading session players, whose touring and recording credits include everyone from Duran Duran to Thunder, and respected bass player Andy Tolman.

When other commitments prevent bass player and drummer from taking their place in the Voodoo Room line-up, it’s no problem.

The group can call on the talents of Steven Oates or John Currie to step up on bass, while Pete Turtle or Tony Kiley take over the sticks.

The group is enjoying a busy run of dates during January and will take to the stage at Mickleton after gigs at Leeds and Halifax the previous two nights.

Support for the evening comes from Brighton based blues, roots and folk singer songwriter Mike ‘Dr Blue’, who will be joined at Mickleton by Gary Grainger.

Sue Brown, from Mickleton Live said: “Over the years, Mike ‘Dr Blue’ has played guitar and harmonica and sung solo as well as performing with a lot of different musicians and a few different bands.

“He’s been writing roots and folk songs all his life and started writing blues as well. It came naturally – he loves telling stories.”

Tickets for the show are £12 in advance or £14 on the night. Doors open at 8pm and as usual there will be pie and peas available.

This is the first Mickleton Live gig of the year and others lined up include the return of blues rocker Rebecca Downes in March, hotfoot from her support slot opening for veteran rockers Magnum on their UK tour, which begins next month.
