Book a place at £1 writing course in Barnard Castle

BUDDING writers are invited to explore their creative side at Barnard Castle library this month.

North East writer Rachel Cochrane is heading to Durham County Council libraries to host New Year, New You-themed writing sessions to encourage and inspire creative minds.

In the two-hour sessions Ms Cochrane will use diaries, archive materials and stories to stimulate the imaginations of participants and give advice and support on bringing words to life.

Finished works will be compiled by Ms Cochrane to be displayed at the libraries.

Three pieces of writing from everything produced in the workshops will also be chosen and recorded in audio, for a podcast. Ms Cochrane said: “Express yourself. The sessions are relaxed and informal, using the theme of diaries as inspiration for your own writing.

“All are welcome including those new to writing and trying it for the first time.”

All sessions cost £1 and booking is required, by phoning the library. Barnard Castle Library will host its session on Wednesday, January 17, from 2pm to 4pm. To book. call 03000 263409

Linda Dobson, the council’s principal library manager, said: “January is a great time to learn something new and these sessions offer an opportunity for people to discover their writing talents in a fun and creative way.

“With Rachel’s passion for words and the North East we’re thrilled to have her on board and I’d encourage anyone with an interest in writing to book a place.”
