The evening, at St Mary's Parish Church, in Barnard Castle, will feature author and actor Lucy Adlington and is being hosted by re-enactment group World War II Operations.
The presentation is based on Ms Adlington’s novel The Red Ribbon. The plot revolves around the dressmakers of German concentration camp Auschwitz.
Iris Hillery of World War II Operations said: “The commandant’s wife at Auschwitz set up a dressmakers’ studio.
“For some of these women it saved their lives, otherwise they would have been sent to the gas chambers.
“It is one of those things she came across in her research.”
Ms Hillery added: “It highlights how important clothes were in peoples lives and for self-actualisation.
“They had their clothes taken from them but they were making dresses for the commandant’s wife and her friends.”
The novel features a central character who is inspired to make her own “Liberation Dress” after being given a red ribbon.
Ms Hillery said the book was about hope and determination.
She added: “It is a book aimed at young adults, although I have read it and I enjoyed it and I am not a young adult.”
Ms Adlington will be signing copies of her book on the night.
The evening starts with drinks and canapes and people can enjoy browsing through a display of 1940s fashion and accessories. There will also be a bookstall and poppy memorabilia will be on sale.
Entry to event, on Tuesday, November 7, is £5 and includes the canapes.
