Revving up for a great weekend at the annual Barnard Castle Truck Show

MOTOR enthusiasts are in for a treat next month as a joint truck and car show comes to the dale.

For the second year running, the annual Barnard Castle Truck Show is teaming up with Redline Northeast Motorshow to host a great weekend for the whole family over the August bank holiday.

The two shows will be held together at Streatlam Farm, just outside Barnard Castle. Admission is from 9am on Friday, August 25, and the event continues until 3pm on Monday, August 28.

The shows will be raising money for the Great North Air Ambulance Service through ticket sales and a live auction.

Paul Gatley, one of the organisers from Redline Northeast car club, said: “This is the third show we have done in total. We have done one in Thirsk and this will be our second in Barnard Castle.

“From day one of the car club being set up in January 2015 we decided to choose a charity to support.

“Everyone in the club knows someone who at some point has needed the air ambulance.”

He added: “We just thought it was a good local charity to support.”

Events at the shows will include the judging of trucks, vintage trucks, commercial stands and an auto jumble.

Meanwhile, trophies up for grabs at the car show will include best car, best van, best bike, best interior and best engine bay.

Cars in the show can be anything from new to old, standard to modified and even American.

Trade stalls, fairground rides and catering stands will be there as well as a live auction and live music.

As part of the car show there will also be a flame and bang competition, a soap box race, a quarter mile race with a twist, It’s A Knockout competition and a burn out arena.

Mr Gatley said: “I think we had about 30 cars last year which wasn’t bad for a first year. It will be a family fun day. There will be lots to do for everyone.”

Booking is required for anyone wanting to enter a car or truck in the shows. Admission on the gate costs £7 adult and £3 child. Club camping is available throughout the weekend.

Pitches cost £10 each.
