Barnard Castle martial arts club strikes gold, silver and bronze

BARNARD Castle Chung Do Kwan Taekwondo Club scooped three gold medals, four silvers and three bronze at a competition in Darlington.
The martial arts event, which attracted nearly 100 competitors, saw teams from all over the North East battle it out.
The Barnard Castle club, which trains every Monday and Wednesday at The Hub, Shaw Bank, were up there challenging for the top marks and the top placings.
Instructor Katey Wallace said: “It just goes to show how seriously the students in the dale take their martial arts training
 “To be in a team and go to a competition takes a lot of dedication, training and commitment.
“The more you practice the better you get and these athletes have all given 100 per cent effort to perform at the weekend. They thoroughly deserve the success.”
Medals winners were: Sue Baillie, Dave Hughes, Helen and David Overfield, Stephen Plews, Thomas Overfield, Izzy Plews and Alastair Nattress.
