COMMUNITY spirited Lewis Baillie represented Teesdale at the national finals of Lions Clubs National Young Ambassador scheme.
Lewis, from Barnard Castle, impressed the Teesdale Lions Club by helping out on numerous occasions, marshalling at events or taking part in collections.
It was suggested that on the back of his many community activities, including much good work on anti-bullying programmes, that he might like to represent the club at the regional finals – following in the footsteps of his sister Lauren, who represented the club two years ago.
After winning the North East award, he duly went on to represent the region at the national finals in Dudley.
He was pipped to the £1,000 first prize to be spent on a project of the winner’s choice, however, Lewis bagged the Ship Shape Prize – a handsome trophy and the chance of a week at sea with the Jubilee Sailing Trust on a tall ship, working with able bodied and disabled students.
Since winning this award, Lewis was invited to speak at the Scottish Parliament United Nations World Peace Day, at Holyrood, where he impressed delegates with his excellent presentation skills.
A few days later, he and sister Freya were presented with Lions Young Leaders In Service Gold Awards at the Staindrop Explorer Scout meeting, by club president Jeff Dobson and regional chairman Sue Barron, in recognition of more than 100 hours of community service.
Next up, Lewis and Teesdale Lions Club are hosting a family fun quiz and race night at 7.30pm on Saturday, April 29, at Barnard Castle Cricket Club. Entry includes pie and peas.
