Annual Rokeby Farmers' Ball raises £1,000 for hospice

A HISTORIC farmers’ ball was the toast of a vital charity after raising £1,000.
Rokeby Farmers’ Ball donated the money to St Teresa’s Hospice, in Darlington, following their event, which took place at The Morritt, at Greta Bridge, in February.
Hospice trustee Mary Lovell collected the cheque. She said: “We are so grateful for their support. When groups like this choose to offer us  support it often means someone close to them has received help from St Teresa’s.”
This year’s was the 71st Rokeby Farmers’ Ball. More than 175 people turned out to enjoy dinner and dancing to a live band. The event was originally started by farmers on Rokeby Estate – and all of the present committee still have close connections to the estate.
Robin Bellas, one of the organisers, said: “It was a fabulous night and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.”
The ball is held just before farmers start lambing but isn’t just for those who work the land or own livestock.
“Anyone can go – and they’ll have a great night,” added Mr Bellas.
