Ploughers aim for precision at annual Ewe Bank match

MORE than 20 tractors from yesteryear converged on Teesdale for the sixth annual Ewe Bank Vintage Ploughing Match.
Ploughmen came from as far as Appleby and Brough to take part in the event which raised about £800 for the Great North Air Ambulance Service and Brignall Church.
Organisers Peter and Anne Moss, of Ewe Bank Farm, on the A66 said the ploughing match had gone from strength to strength since it was started in 2010.
Mrs Moss said: “Many of the tractors have been lovingly restored and the event highlights our rich farming heritage.”
The couple thanked Holmebeck Huts, Rokeby Inn, The Morritt Arms and Ravensworth Nurseries for sponsoring the competition prizes. The winner of the trailed ploughing category was Fred Hayllar from Brough while the unmodified hydraulic class was won by Mr A Richards.
Mr Richards drove his small tractor all the way from Leeming Bar to take part in the event.
Hugh Jones, from Appleby, took the modified hydraulics section and Brian Elliott, of Greta Bridge, won the novice class.
Competitors ranged from teenagers to experienced senior citizens.
