Finn's fabulous festive display lights up Cockfield

A YOUNG Cockfield lad has seen his Christmas message to the village put up in lights after winning a competition at school.

Finn Beadle’s design for a new motif to add to the village’s Christmas lights has been turned into a giant display adorning the gable end of a house.

The ten-year-old, who lives in the village, came up with a drawing of Santa the festive message: “Merry Christmas Cockfield”.

The competition was organised by the Cockfield Christmas Lights Committee and Blacheres, the firm which supplies the motifs.

Christine Watters, chairman of the Christmas lights committee, said: “We got in touch with the school to see it if they would be interested and they were.

“Everyone from nursery to 11 took part and there were some absolutely brilliant designs. It was a very hard choice to pick a winner.”

The competition was held earlier in the year to give the manufacturer time to make the motif.

“It was delivered in November and it went up at the beginning of December, said Mrs Watters.

“It’s lovely and exactly to Finn’s design.”

She added: “The lights are looking absolutely fantastic this year and anyone who has seen them is saying the same.”

Finn, who enjoys art and drawing at school, said he was surprised when his design was picked as the winner.

“There were lots of good drawings. I was hopeful but I did not think I would win.”

Having now seen his motif installed and fully illuminated, he said he was delighted at how it had turned out.

“It’s very big and it looks good. I got a nice surprise when I saw it.”

During Cockfield Christmas Lights Committee’s annual fair, Finn was presented with a special present to put under the family tree to celebrate his win.
