FORGET Me Not – The Alzheimer’s Whodunnit is a comedy murder mystery coming to Barningham Village Hall on Friday, November 3.
The story revolves around retired police office Jim, whose wife, a patient on a dementia ward, has died from what appear to be natural causes.
Jim smells a rat and is determined to solve one last murder. The problem is he also has dementia. It’s a case worthy of the greatest detective mind. But his will have to do.
Brought to Barningham through the Highlights Rural Touring Scheme, Forget Me Not is a one man show written and performed by Leicester based comic, poet and psychiatric nurse, Rob Gee.
The performance uses poetry, comedy, storytelling and theatre as Jim goes off in pursuit of justice.
Rob Gee has appeared at poetry festivals in Australia, Canada and the US and at the UK’s Edinburgh Fringe and Glastonbury Festival and has shared stages with personalities as diverse as Harold Pinter, Joe Brand, Jimmy Carr, Sue Townsend and Sarah Millican.
He also worked for 12 years as a registered nurse in acute psychiatric units in England, Scotland and Australia and has real insight into mental health issues.
Robin Brooks, a member of Barningham Village Hall committee, said: “A comedy show with the word Alzheimer’s in the title sounds like a contradiction in terms and of course dementia and memory loss are very far from being laughing matters.
“But this show doesn’t attempt to poke fun or belittle the importance of mental health.
“Instead it explores how we perceive people with dementia with real wit and compassion. Anyone who sees it will have their assumptions about their fellow men and women well and truly challenged as well as enjoying an evening of pure theatre”.
Forget Me Not comes under the banner of the Highlights Rural Touring Scheme.
The show starts at 7.30 pm and tickets cost £9.50 for adults, £4 for children and £20 for families. Call 01833 621203 or email rpbrooks72 @gmail.com to reserve tickets or book on line at www.high lightsnorth.co.uk.
Show-goers are welcome to bring their own drinks.
