Fun-packed summer at Bowlees Visitor Centre

MAGNIFICENT minibeasts, creatures of the night and campfire cookery are just some of the wild adventures you can have at Bowlees Visitor Centre in Teesdale this summer.

Wildlife, the landscape, and traditional crafts, all make an appearance in the events listings throughout August.

Run by the North Pennines AONB Partnership, the award-winning centre’s popular summer programme has gone from strength-to-strength.

Every Wednesday throughout the school holidays the popular Wild Wednesdays are back and they started with Fabulous Flowers and Buzzing Bees last week.

For older visitors there are traditional craft courses, including spoon carving and rag rug making, both led by experts in the field. On Friday, August 19, there will be the return of an annual evening walk searching for bats and moths.

Led by Alistair Lockett, from the North Pennines AONB Partnership, and in collaboration with Natural England, people of all ages are invited to walk along the banks of the Tees at dusk and use echo location equipment to find these fascinating night time flyers.

Kaye Jemmeson, from the AONB Partnership, said: “We have a fantastic line-up over the summer. There really is something for everyone and each event has resonance with our amazing landscape. And as well as being fun, you can learn something too.”
