Like all good ideas, Jo’s firewalk was dreamt up while in the pub

A BARNARD Castle woman is inviting people to join her on a firewalk as part of her “year of doing crazy stuff”.

Mum of two Jo Long is hoping that 40 people will dare to walk over hot coals with her as part of a scheme to raise cash for local charity The Clique.

The idea came about while she was talking to friend Ian Holliday in the pub.

She said: “It was something I wanted to do anyway and I am having a year of doing crazy stuff. I missed an opportunity to do one in Gateshead, so we came up with the idea of holding one here while chatting over drinks, as you do.”

Ms Long’s year of “crazy things” has already seen her have her first tattoo in 20 years, and will soon lead to her taking part in an Olympic distance triathlon.

As part of her love for the outdoors she enjoys cycling and swimming.

She said: “I climbed Kilimanjaro six years a ago and that set off my love for doing outdoor things.”

Mr Holliday shares an adventurous spirit and has enjoyed the likes of parachuting and bungee-jumping.

The firewalk will take place at Barnard Castle Rugby Club on Friday, July 21, and it costs £40 for a ticket.

Training begins at 6pm and the walk starts at 8pm.

Spectators are welcome and the facilities of the rugby club will be open. A raffle with an array of prizes will be on offer.
