Weekend sports round-up: Win takes Barnard Castle FC top of Sunday morning league division 2

In the Wear Valley Sunday league, Barnard Castle FC's 2-1 win against Newton Aycliffe Navy Club saw the dale side leapfrog their opponents to lead division 2.

In the morning's other matches involving Teesdale's teams, there were goals galore.

Toft Hill put four past Kirk Merrington Half Moon. Unfortunately, the visitors scored seven in reply to take the points.

Gainford were on the wrong end of a 12-0 hammering at Tindale WMC in the Heart Foundation Cup.

On Saturday, West Auckland conceded three goals in ten second half minutes to put paid to their hopes of taking anything from the game against Northern League division one leaders North Shields.

In the Crook and District League, Bowes conceded two goals in the last 10 minutes and had to settle for a 4-4 draw against Wellington WMC at Shaw Bank.

In the second division, Glaxo Rangers worked hard for a 2-1 home win against Crook Town Wanderers, while in the quarter final of the Weardale Cup, Heighington edged a 2-1 win at Evenwood Town.

On the rugby field, Barnard Castle RUFC's 1st XV had a free weekend. The club's third XV hosted Bishop Auckland, losing narrowly, 20-17.
